Greetings Apple Valley High School Community,

We are headed into spring with high hopes and much anticipation. We are preparing for our yearly battery of state testing, college acceptance letters for our seniors, and some new programs for 2011-2012.

Our students will take the California Standards Tests in late April (4/25-4/29) this year.  We have preparing them from the onset to raise our scores even higher than last year.  We will be celebrating those students who achieved proficiency in two subjects or more last year as we reach the test date.  Further, an administrator or counselor will talk to every student in grades nine through eleven to review last year’s scores and set goals.  Our API is 752 and our target is 775.  We know we can do it.

The class of 2011 has proven to be outstanding.  We eagerly await news of college acceptance and other awards this group has earned.  Please pay close attention to the dates and information in this newsletter regarding senior activities.  We look forward to celebrating with you.

For next year we have some exciting new programs and additions.  First, we will complete construction of a state bond funded restaurant facility for our ROP restaurant, bakery, and catering program.  We will open the new school year in the new building with industry standard facilities for student to learn and gain experience.  Second, we are going to begin a second academy program to join our very successful Medical and Health Science Technology academy (MAHST).  The new academy will be called CAMP (Computer And Media Pathway) and it will focus on the Information Technology industry sector.  We will be incorporating the same academy teaching models to provide students a cross-curricular and industry themed education.  CAMP begins in 2011!

In the short term, remember to check our website at avusd.org for updated information.  We have a minimum day on March 16.  Thank you for your continued support.
